Day 17- Book Nerd

I am currently sat at my boyfriends parents house, waiting for him to finish work for the midnight launch of Fifa

I spent most of the day pissig around, then sat on the train, read the stage, read more of the book on bedlem I am currently reading, then met up with the boys n his friends, which was really nice :)

Now I'm going to finish reading this book, start reading the boy in the striped pijamas, then I think it's on to my first John Green book.  Nerdfighters FTW!!

I Love books!  I have totaly fallen inlove with reading, now if you don't mind, I have history to geek out on!

A long train journey and a fresh start!

hello my beautiful blog readers!  If there are any of you out there I am back!

I am back from the fringe and seen as i now *fingers crossed* have the internet back in my life i am going to atempt something rather stupid..... a blog a day for a whole year to make up for my general lamness on here!

it wont be starting just yet, im re-cooperating and seeing the family and the boy atm, but soon!

sometimes it may just be a sentance, a picture, somtimes maybe an empty rant, usually depending on how tired I am from work, but the one thing i can promice is there will be something on here everyday.  My only rule is when i say everyday i mean my day, so for instance if i get back from work at 3am and post something, its still counts as that day....basicaly im working on fringe time, as long as i havnt been to sleep as far as im concerned its the same day!  hopefully this will start around the beginning of next week.

anyway right now im back from the fringe, i'm super tired, im catching up with some important people, then back to see my house mates and actually work for cash.  i went for an awesome meal with the boy the other night and tomorrow im spending the day with my mum and were gonna finally go watch toy story 3

bye bye

My poor neglected blog... awesomeness is on it's way!

Well maybe not blog wise, but these next couple of weeks should be fun fuilled for me at least!

First things first, multimedia assesments are finished! Which means little to whoever is reading this but it basicaly means I am no longer working 14-16 hour days with very little breaks. Infact, i have booked 18 days off work starting in 2 day's, 11 of which will be payed, and I finaly got the pay rise I have been wanting for a while, although that probibily won't come into reality for a while yet...

Photo of all the technicion's that worked the multimedia assesments

Which means no more assesment work till at least October, which is a shame really, I do enjoy them, but don't tell the student's that ;)

So tomorow the fun starts! Tonight I have to finish the show (Bomber's Moon, it's really good!), do the get out, then go home and have a masive packing sesion so i have everything ready for all the upcoming events, which is going to totaly suck cause i HATE packing! Then tomorow, i get up, set some stuff up at work, leave the guy's to it and get on a train because....

I am going to see Lady gaga!

This was a bit last minuite, my sister had two tickets to see her at the O2 arena and someone dropped out so she offered the other ticket to me, i can't wait, i bet she will be amazing live, I have been to the 02 arena twice before, once to go to the fanclub member's only Metallica show with my friend Samantha, and last time was with my older sister to go to the Michael Jackson tribute, if there's one thing you will learn about me from reading this blog it's that my music taste makes no sence

The next day I am getting a stupidly early train to my home town because it's my boyfriend's birthday, and we wil just be chiling out. I don't really know if my boy would want me to put a picture of him on the net so instead....

Happy birthday baby!

Last week was my mum's birthday but as I was working and didn't get to see her so the next day will mostly consist of me hanging out with my mummy <3

Me and Mum at the P!nk gig last year

On friday I am off to London again, this time me and the boy are stopping at my sister's for the weekend for the Bizarre ball

A friend of a friend won tickets and couldn't go so now me and the boy are attending in their place, the theme is carnival, but as it was last minuite i couldn't think of anything to go as, so I figured to hell with it and instead I am going as my blog's name sake, I am going as an industrial Alice :). This is what i have bought to wear so far (i just pray to got it all comes before I set off for London next week!)

These shoes wern't the cheapest but I don't mind because I know I will wear them alot

A latex Alice mask, a bit random but i kind of love it!

My Alice style corset, think this look's Alicey enough?

This is the one thing i'm most unsure of, latex blue skirt, i purposly got it to my hip size and not my waist size as I am worryed about the fit, I don't have the smallest bottom half, so i'm just hoping this works out ok!

And these are the cyberlox I am getting, the guy who is making them is going to stick some yellow in there too to make them a little more Alice like at no extra cost along with a clip in white fringe.

That is pritty much all of it, along with some Alice socks i already have and other bit's and bobs, oh and these awsome Cheshire Cat cyber goggles I already have which i love!

I just hope it all comes together and people can actualy tell who i'm ment to be. Then when i'm back from that it's strait to Download festival! This will be my 5th year in a row of going and I love it, although these day's i think it has more to do with meeting up with old freinds then Download itself

Then the day after I am back from that I go back to London once more to stay at my sister's before going with her and her Texan friend to Paris for a day as both me and him have never been before, I am not sure what this will consist of yet, then back to Lincoln to work the Art's Festival, then back to my home town once more to look after my little sister for a week as my parents are away

and so concludes my next month!

Love ya's all!

Alice in Underland

Of course I had to comment on the new film! It just wouldn’t be right if I didn’t…

Initially I wanted to see this the minute it came out, but due to work and wanting to see it with the boy I had to wait over a week and travel to Sheffield to see it with him at Ciniworld (much better then the crappy Odeon here in Lincoln). Needless to say it was well worth the wait!

This is not a strait forward Alice adaptation, set 10 years later it has a different feel to the original book, I guess the more mature version of Alice has had some of her curiosity knocked out of her. However I think this is partially why Alice fans love it! Anything that is a direct adaptation/ remake brings up countless arguments about weather or not it was done right, weather it stayed true to the book and where it went wrong, and with Alice in Wonderland/ Alice though the looking glass, staying true to the book is near possible while keeping any form of structure, something all directors have had problems with

I loved the style strait off, the transition from “normal” life to wonderland seemed effortless. The weakest point in the film I believe was the scenes outside of Wonderland (or Underland), this sort of “Alice needs to make a decision and then falls into Wonderland, helping her make the decision when she arrives back” is way too over done for my liking and is not a product of the original book. Also the sexual tension between the mad hatter and Alice seemed a little odd, anyone who is a fan of bria-chan’s work on deviant art *cough* I’m a beautiful palm tree *cough* will know that she has played on this between the Disney versions of Alice and Hatter for some time, but here however the vibe seemed different, making it awkward to watch at times. Sometimes I get the feeling script writers feel that EVEY film must have a love story somewhere in it and this can spoil things

The new Alice played by Mia Wasikowska, was very good, she is different to other portrayals of Alice but there was just enough about her to make you believe that she is who Alice could have grown up into. However at the start if the film I was ready to hate her, in the “real world” scenes at the start she was totally flat, cold and uninviting, it was hard to believe the ever curious and giddy Alice could be so plainly acted. However this changed throughout the film.

To be honest, part of me wanted to hate Jonny Depp’s version of the Mad Hatter, not because I think he’s a bad actor, I rate him as one of the best, but purely because of the over marketing he has received. Months before the film’s release his face was everywhere, on TV he was the main focus, on ridiculous merchandise everywhere (the entire Clare’s collection was dedicated to Depp) and in all the posters. In short, I thought the “look, Jonny Depp is in this film” stuff was just far too much. It took for too much focus away from Alice, the person who it was meant to be about. However as usual Jonny excelled, his version of the ever accent changing Hatter was a strange one, but still a character who you could engage with, despite his madness.

My two favourite characters in this version were the dog Bayard, who I totally thought was a real dog till he started talking (10 points to the animation team on that one), his talk about his wife and pups made me feel for him instantly, and the March Hair, who I totally loved! His quirky and outright mad ways I thought were hilarious and had me actually laughing out loud in the cinema. On the whole most of the new characters worked well, the touch of making the Red Queen look how she does in the book (big out of proportion head among other things) was a nice touch

Before seeing the film my boyfriend was worried about Disney dumbing down and cleaning up Burton’s work, which he had heard from friends had occurred. Apart from the fact that Burton had previously worked with Disney doing Nightmare Before Christmas, a film I don’t believe is light or stereotypically “Disney” at all, I don’t believe it was made to be lightened. Admittedly it wasn’t as dark as some of Burton’s work but it was focused around an entirely different film style and audiences’, it still had plenty of suggestions to show Burton’s gothic nature. I think lot of people were expecting something similar to American McGee’s Alice, which I would also love to see a version of! Weather the boy agreed after the film? Well you will just have to as him :)

The only other thing to mention about it really are two little nerdy moments me and my boyfriend picked up, the first being when the red Queen says “dwinkies” to one of the guards, me and my boyfriend both turned to each other and uttered “Blackadder” did anyone else find this part reminded them of Queenie from Blackadder the second? And the final bit was when Alice was talking to the Cheshire Cat, the tree’s as she walked away spelt out Alice (see of you notice!)

Overall it was very enjoyable, the animation and 3D worked well and the attention to detail was amazing, very dark, very fantastical, very Burton, very Disney and most importantly, very Alice, I MUST have the special edition DVD as soon as it comes out.

P.S Notice how the Mad Hatter has one dilated pupil and one normal? This is a sign of brain damage, very clever!

P.P.S sorry for sloppy writing style, spelling and grammar, I’m writing this at work so it’s kind of rushed shhhh!
